Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fuzheng Pingchan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The formula is based on the TCM principle of tonifying the kidney and extinguishing wind and typically consists of herbs such as *Astragalus membranaceus*, *Rehmannia glutinosa*, and *Paeonia lactiflora*. Pharmacological research suggests that Fuzheng Pingchan provides neuroprotection by preventing the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, reducing the accumulation of alpha-synuclein, and inhibiting oxidative stress and neuroinflammatory responses. It is primarily used as an adjunctive therapy to standard levodopa treatment to enhance clinical efficacy and alleviate motor complications such as dyskinesia.
