Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fuzi Guizhi decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula historically used for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders such as lumbar disc herniation and joint diseases. The formula typically contains processed Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi) and Cinnamomum cassia (Guizhi), among other herbs. Modern pharmacological studies have identified at least 154 active compounds in the formula, with naringenin, β-sitosterol, and stigmasterol highlighted as key bioactive components. Mechanistically, Fuzi Guizhi decoction exerts its effects by modulating inflammatory responses, inhibiting apoptosis in chondrocytes, and reducing oxidative stress. Core molecular targets include TNF, STAT3, MAPK1/3, IL6, and AKT1; it also influences pathways such as AGE-RAGE and IL-17 signaling. These actions are believed to underlie its efficacy in conditions like lumbar disc herniation[1][4]. The mechanism may involve inhibition of mitochondrial apoptosis to protect cartilage cells[4].
