Overview

FW-UP is an oral, non-systemic formulation of the anthelmintic small molecule niclosamide being developed by First Wave BioPharma for the treatment of distal forms of inflammatory bowel disease, specifically ulcerative proctitis and ulcerative proctosigmoiditis. It is designed to deliver niclosamide to the lower gastrointestinal tract, where the drug’s local anti-inflammatory and potentially immunomodulatory actions in the mucosa may ameliorate symptoms and mucosal inflammation with minimal systemic exposure. FW-UP is part of First Wave’s niclosamide-based gastrointestinal pipeline, which also includes formulations for COVID-19 gastrointestinal infections and other inflammatory bowel diseases.[4]
