Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FWY003 is an investigational humanized monoclonal antibody fragment (Fab) developed by Novartis for the treatment of geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It is designed to inhibit Complement Factor B (CFB), a key serine protease in the alternative complement pathway. Dysregulation and overactivation of the complement system are central to the pathogenesis of GA, leading to the progressive destruction of retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptor cells. By targeting CFB locally via intravitreal injection, FWY003 aims to suppress the alternative pathway and slow the expansion of geographic atrophy lesions. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to assess its safety, efficacy, and dose-response profile in patients with GA.
