FXR shRNA is a research-grade RNA interference tool designed to silence the expression of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), a nuclear receptor that regulates bile acid homeostasis. In the context of esophageal cancer research, FXR shRNA has been utilized to demonstrate that FXR mediates the carcinogenic effects of bile acids, such as the induction of COX-2 and suppression of tumor suppressors like RAR-β2 and RRIG1. By knocking down FXR, researchers have shown a reduction in cancer cell viability and an antagonism of bile acid-induced gene expression changes, suggesting FXR as a potential target for chemoprevention in esophageal adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
