Overview

FYGL is a natural hyperbranched proteoglycan extracted from the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum. It exhibits antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, antioxidant, and muscle-protective activities in animal models. Its primary mechanism is the inhibition of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), a key negative regulator of insulin signaling, resulting in decreased blood glucose, improved insulin sensitivity, increased insulin secretion, ameliorated pancreatic function, and prevention of diabetes-induced muscle atrophy. FYGL also activates AMPK, enhances activity of insulin-sensitive enzymes, regulates glucose transporter expression, and modulates oxidative stress. FYGL is being investigated as a candidate for diabetes therapy and muscle protection in type 2 diabetes[1][2][3][4].
