FZD3 small interfering RNA is an RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic candidate designed to silence the expression of the Frizzled-3 (FZD3) receptor. FZD3 is a member of the Frizzled family of G protein-coupled receptors that serve as receptors for Wnt signaling proteins, specifically within the planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway. In the context of cutaneous melanoma, FZD3 is often highly expressed and is thought to play a redundant role with FZD6 in promoting tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. By specifically targeting and degrading FZD3 mRNA, this siRNA aims to inhibit these oncogenic processes. Research conducted by the Chang group has demonstrated that dual knockdown of FZD3 and FZD6 significantly decreases melanoma cell proliferation compared to single knockdowns, suggesting a potential therapeutic strategy for treatment-resistant melanoma.
