Overview

G-CSF mobilized peripheral blood cells are an allogeneic cellular therapy product used in a specialized procedure known as microtransplantation. This therapy involves the collection of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from an HLA-mismatched donor (typically a family member) after they have been treated with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) to mobilize stem and progenitor cells. Developed and investigated by the University of Southern California (USC), this approach is specifically applied to patients with intermediate-risk acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Unlike conventional hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, microtransplantation involves the infusion of these donor cells following chemotherapy (such as cytarabine) without the need for intensive conditioning or the goal of permanent donor chimerism. The mechanism relies on a transient graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect and the acceleration of hematopoietic recovery, which aims to improve clinical outcomes while significantly reducing the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
