Overview

The G. velutinum ethyl acetate fraction is a research-stage botanical extract derived from the leaves of *Glochidion velutinum*, a plant species in the family Phyllanthaceae. This fraction is obtained by partitioning the methanolic extract of the leaves with ethyl acetate, resulting in a complex mixture rich in polyphenolic compounds. Key phytochemicals identified within this fraction include flavonoids such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), ellagic acid, isovitexin, and rutin. In academic research, the fraction has demonstrated significant cytotoxic activity against human prostate cancer (PC-3) and breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines, with an IC50 of approximately 226 µg/mL against MCF-7 cells. Its anticancer mechanisms are attributed to the synergistic effects of its constituent polyphenols, which are known to modulate pathways related to cell proliferation and apoptosis. Notably, the fraction has shown negligible toxicity to normal macrophages at tested doses, suggesting a potential therapeutic window for further investigation.
