Overview

G13 shRNA is a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) therapeutic candidate designed to silence the expression of the G protein subunit alpha 13 (Gα13, encoded by the GNA13 gene). In small cell lung cancer (SCLC), G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) drive growth through Gq/11 and G12/13 pathways. Research conducted at the University of Munich and University of Marburg demonstrated that lentiviral-mediated knockdown of G13, particularly when combined with G12 knockdown, significantly inhibits SCLC cell proliferation in vitro and abolishes tumorigenicity in vivo. This approach targets the non-redundant mitogenic signaling cascades essential for SCLC progression, offering a potential RNA interference (RNAi) strategy for treating neuroendocrine lung tumors.
