Overview

G56W1 is a once-weekly, injectable biosimilar of teriparatide consisting of recombinant human parathyroid hormone fragment 1-34 (rhPTH 1-34) developed for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. It acts as an anabolic osteoporosis therapy by intermittently activating the parathyroid hormone receptor on osteoblasts and osteoblast precursors, thereby stimulating new bone formation and increasing bone mineral density, particularly in the lumbar spine and hip. Clinical development has included randomized, double-blind, positive-controlled multicenter trials in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis comparing two doses of G56W1 with once-weekly teriparatide acetate (Teribone). G56W1 is positioned as a teriparatide biosimilar to provide an additional parathyroid hormone–based option for high-fracture-risk osteoporosis patients.[1][3][7]
