GA-AT0719 is an oral medical device (Class IIa) developed by Devintec Sagl for the management of functional gastrointestinal disorders, specifically functional abdominal bloating and distension. It is a combination product consisting of simethicone and Acti-Abdo, a proprietary standardized complex of herbal extracts derived from Althaea officinalis (marshmallow) and Zingiber officinale (ginger). Simethicone acts as a surfactant to reduce the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, facilitating their coalescence and removal. The herbal components provide complementary effects: ginger acts as a prokinetic and antispasmodic agent to improve gastric motility, while marshmallow root provides demulcent properties to soothe the intestinal mucosa. GA-AT0719 has been evaluated in clinical trials, demonstrating superior efficacy compared to simethicone alone in reducing symptoms of excessive intestinal gas and bloating, including in patients with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).
