Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GA-Metabolite 5 (also known as GA-FALALKALKKALKKL-COOH or AG-metabolite 5) is a synthetic peptide bioconjugate consisting of gallic acid (GA) conjugated to the N-terminus of metabolite 5, a degradation product of the lytic peptide Hecate. Developed by researchers at the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) in Brazil, GA-Metabolite 5 is being investigated as a broad-spectrum antiviral agent. It has demonstrated significant in vitro and in vivo efficacy against Zika virus (ZIKV) and Chikungunya virus (CHIKV). The bioconjugate exerts its antiviral effects through a multi-targeted mechanism, including direct virucidal activity by disrupting viral particles, blocking viral entry into host cells, and interfering with intracellular viral replication.
