Overview
Ga-Mi Gongjindan (GJD) is a modified formulation of the traditional Korean medicine Gongjindan, specifically optimized for enhancing cognitive function and neuroprotection. It is composed of five primary ingredients: three medicinal herbs (*Corni fructus*, *Angelica gigas*, and *Ginseng radix*) and two animal-derived materials (*Muschus* and *Cornus cervi parvum*). GJD is primarily investigated for its potential in treating cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Its mechanism of action involves the restoration of cholinergic function by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity and increasing choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) levels. Additionally, it modulates the BDNF/CREB signaling pathway, leading to increased expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and cAMP response element-binding protein in the hippocampus, which supports neuronal survival and synaptic plasticity.
