Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gabament is an oral small molecule formulation of gabapentin, a structural analog of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), marketed by Anthus Pharmaceuticals. It exerts its therapeutic effects by binding with high affinity to the alpha-2-delta-1 subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) in the central nervous system. This interaction reduces the calcium-dependent release of several excitatory neurotransmitters, including glutamate, norepinephrine, and substance P, thereby modulating neuronal excitability. Gabament is indicated for the management of various neuropathic pain conditions, such as postherpetic neuralgia, and as an adjunctive treatment for seizure disorders, specifically partial seizures.
