Gadobenate dimeglumine is a gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) to enhance the visibility of blood vessels, organs, and other tissues. It is primarily indicated for diagnosing abnormalities of the central nervous system (brain and spine), as well as for detecting atherosclerosis in adults. The drug works by exploiting its paramagnetic properties; when exposed to an external magnetic field during MRI, it induces local changes in magnetism that alter water proton behavior, improving image contrast. Gadobenate dimeglumine distributes mainly to extracellular space after intravenous administration and is excreted largely unchanged via the kidneys[1][2][4][5].
