Overview

GAIA-102 is an allogeneic, off-the-shelf natural killer (NK)-like cell therapy developed by GAIA BioMedicine and Kyushu University. It consists of ex-vivo activated and expanded human NK-like cells derived from mixed peripheral blood mononuclear cells. These cells are characterized by a CD3-negative/CD56bright/CD57-negative immature phenotype. Upon administration, GAIA-102 exhibits immunologic cytotoxicity against tumor cells and acts as a natural killer cell replacement therapy. Preclinical studies have shown that it can reduce tumor mass and stimulate anti-tumor acquired immunity by recruiting antigen-presenting cells (APCs) such as dendritic cells and macrophages, shifting macrophage phenotypes toward M1 polarization, and enhancing CTL responses. The product is being investigated for the treatment of various solid tumors including gastric cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), pancreatic cancer, neuroblastoma, malignant ascites, microsatellite instability cancers, stomach adenocarcinoma, pediatric solid tumors with lung metastases (including rhabdomyosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma family), among others[1][3][5][7].
