GAL-101 is a proprietary small molecule developed as an amyloid beta (Aβ) aggregation modulator with neuroprotective activity. It selectively binds to misfolded Aβ monomers, preventing their aggregation into toxic oligomers and protofibrils while sparing healthy Aβ forms. This mechanism aims to reduce the formation of neurotoxic species implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD), glaucoma, and Alzheimer’s disease. GAL-101 is being developed in both oral and topical (eye drop) formulations. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its ability to protect neuronal retinal cells from toxic damage and provide sustained prevention of toxic Aβ oligomer formation through a unique "trigger effect," resulting in long-lasting therapeutic benefits even after drug levels decline. The drug has shown excellent safety and tolerability profiles in early clinical trials[1][2][3][5][6][7].
