**GAL-GNR-siBRAF** is an experimental, galactose-targeted gold-nanorod nanocarrier designed for hepatocellular carcinoma. It combines galactose for uptake through the asialoglycoprotein receptor on liver cancer cells, gold nanorods that generate heat following near-infrared irradiation, and a BRAF-targeting small interfering RNA that reduces expression of the B-Raf proto-oncogene. The reported preclinical system inhibited hepatoma-cell proliferation, migration, and invasion through BRAF knockdown, with near-infrared photothermal treatment providing a synergistic tumor-cell-killing effect. It is a research-stage nanomedicine rather than an approved therapeutic product.
