Overview

Galanin (1-15) is a synthetic peptide comprising the first 15 amino acids of the neuropeptide galanin. Galanin (1-15) acts primarily as an agonist at the galanin receptor family, including galanin receptor 1 (GALR1), galanin receptor 2 (GALR2), and galanin receptor 3 (GALR3), which are G protein-coupled receptors distributed throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems. This peptide fragment retains significant biological activities of the full-length galanin, such as neuromodulatory, anticonvulsant, and anti-obesity effects[6][2]. Galanin and its active fragments like galanin (1-15) modulate neuronal excitability, synaptic transmission, feeding behavior, energy homeostasis, inflammatory responses, and neuroendocrine functions through their interaction with galanin receptors[6][4][2]. In experimental studies, galanin and its fragments demonstrate anticonvulsant, anti-obesity, and potential neuroprotective effects, and are being explored for therapeutic roles in epilepsy, obesity, eating disorders, mood disorders, inflammatory diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease[6][2][4].
