Overview

Galcanezumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody used for the prevention of migraine and the treatment of cluster headaches. It works by binding to and blocking calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide involved in migraine pathophysiology. By preventing CGRP from exerting its biological effects, galcanezumab helps reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks as well as episodic cluster headache attacks. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection, typically once monthly. Galcanezumab was developed by Eli Lilly and received regulatory approval in 2018 in both the United States and European Union[2][3][5][6].
