Galla chinensis extract (GCE) is a plant-derived bioactive material obtained from the galls of *Rhus chinensis* Mill., which are produced when the plant is parasitized by the aphid *Melaphis chinensis*. The extract is highly concentrated in polyphenols, particularly gallotannins and gallic acid. In dental applications, GCE demonstrates a dual therapeutic effect: it promotes the remineralization of enamel and dentin while simultaneously inhibiting the demineralization process. It achieves this by enhancing mineral deposition and stabilizing the organic dentin matrix through hydrogen bonding with collagen. Furthermore, GCE exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against cariogenic biofilms, specifically targeting *Streptococcus mutans* by inhibiting acid production and generating reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide. It is primarily developed for the prevention of dental caries and the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity through the sealing of dentinal tubules.
