Overview

Gallic acid is a natural phenolic compound classified as a trihydroxybenzoic acid. It is widely found in plants, fruits, nuts, tea, and wine. Gallic acid exhibits several pharmacological properties including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory (primarily via inhibition of Mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway and Nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells signaling pathway), antimicrobial, and antineoplastic effects. It has demonstrated therapeutic potential in preclinical models for gastrointestinal disorders, neuropsychological conditions (such as neuroprotection), metabolic diseases (including anti-obesity effects), cardiovascular diseases, and cancer by modulating cell cycle proteins and inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Most evidence for its efficacy comes from cellular or animal studies; robust clinical data in humans are lacking[1][6][8].
