Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gallic acid carbon dots (GA-CDs) are carbon-based nanoparticles synthesized from gallic acid, typically via hydrothermal or pyrolysis methods. They are being investigated for their biocompatible, antioxidant, anticoagulant, and anticancer properties. In the context of hemodialysis, GA-CDs act as membrane-anchored antioxidants and anticoagulants by activating the Nrf2-HO-1 signaling pathway to clear reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibiting the activation of tissue factors on endothelial cells and macrophages. Additionally, GA-CDs have demonstrated cytotoxic and apoptotic effects against colorectal cancer cells (such as HCT-116) by upregulating pro-apoptotic genes like Caspase-3 and Bax.
