Overview

Galligas + gallium-68 macroaggregated albumin is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical combination used for ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) positron emission tomography (PET/CT) imaging. Developed by the Centre Hospitalier Regional Et Universitaire De Brest, this combination is primarily investigated for the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. Galligas consists of 68Ga-labeled carbon nanoparticles (similar to 99mTc-Technegas) used to assess lung ventilation, while 68Ga-macroaggregated albumin (68Ga-MAA) is used to assess lung perfusion. By utilizing PET/CT technology instead of traditional SPECT, this approach offers higher sensitivity, better spatial resolution, and faster acquisition times for detecting mismatched perfusion defects characteristic of pulmonary embolism.
