Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gallium-68 triacetylfusarinine C (68Ga-TAFC) is a radiolabeled siderophore-based diagnostic imaging agent developed for the detection of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) and other invasive Aspergillus infections. Triacetylfusarinine C (TAFC) is the primary extracellular siderophore secreted by the opportunistic fungal pathogen *Aspergillus fumigatus* to scavenge iron from the host environment. By replacing the iron in TAFC with the positron-emitting radionuclide gallium-68, the tracer specifically targets and binds to the fungal siderophore transporter MirB, which is highly upregulated during active infection. This allows for highly sensitive and specific non-invasive localization of fungal lesions using positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging, with rapid renal clearance and minimal background uptake in healthy tissues.
