Gallium chloride Ga-67 is a radioactive isotope of gallium used primarily as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical. It is typically complexed with sodium citrate to form gallium citrate Ga 67 for intravenous administration. After injection, it accumulates in certain viable primary and metastatic tumors as well as sites of acute inflammation, allowing for scintigraphic imaging. The exact mechanism by which it localizes in these tissues is not fully understood but appears to involve accumulation in lysosomes and binding to soluble intracellular proteins within the target cells. Gallium chloride Ga-67 is cyclotron-produced and has a physical half-life of approximately 78 hours. Its main clinical indications are the detection and localization of Hodgkin's disease, lymphomas, bronchogenic carcinoma (lung cancer), and some acute inflammatory lesions[1][2][4][5][6].
