Gallium Ga 67 dotatate is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent used for the localization of somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) using Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT). It consists of the somatostatin analog dotatate (DOTA-tyr3-octreotate) chelated with the gamma-emitting radioisotope gallium-67. Gallium-67 has a physical half-life of approximately 78 hours, which allows for delayed imaging compared to the more common positron-emitting gallium-68. The compound binds with high affinity to somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR2), which is frequently overexpressed on the surface of various neuroendocrine tumors. Upon binding, the radioactivity is concentrated at the tumor site, enabling visualization and staging of the disease. This agent is particularly relevant in clinical settings where PET/CT imaging is unavailable or when prolonged imaging windows are required for dosimetry or diagnostic purposes.
