Gallium ga 68 dotatate is a radiopharmaceutical used as a diagnostic agent in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to localize somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) in adults and children. It consists of the positron-emitting radioisotope gallium 68 chelated to the somatostatin analog DOTATATE, which binds with high affinity to somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR2) that is overexpressed on many NETs. This targeted binding allows for sensitive and specific imaging of NETs, aiding in diagnosis and management. The drug was developed by Advanced Accelerator Applications USA and was FDA approved in June 2016[1][4][5][6].
