Drug intelligence / Profile preview
68Ga + NETSPOT + 18F-FDG refers to the combined use of two diagnostic radiopharmaceutical imaging agents, gallium Ga 68 dotatate (NETSPOT) and fludeoxyglucose F 18 (18F-FDG), in clinical imaging protocols. Gallium Ga 68 dotatate is a radiolabeled somatostatin analog that binds with high affinity to somatostatin receptors (SSTRs), particularly SSTR2, which are frequently overexpressed in neuroendocrine tumors and certain squamous cell carcinomas. Fludeoxyglucose F 18 is a glucose analog that is taken up by cells via glucose transporters (GLUT) and phosphorylated by hexokinase; its accumulation reflects the rate of glucose consumption, which is typically elevated in malignant cells. This combination is being investigated in Phase 2 clinical trials (e.g., NCT03602911) to compare the diagnostic performance of SSTR-targeted PET/CT against standard FDG-PET/CT in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), aiming to improve tumor localization and post-treatment surveillance.
