Gallium Ga 68-edotreotide is a radioactive diagnostic agent indicated for use with positron emission tomography (PET) for the localization of somatostatin receptor positive neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) in adult and pediatric patients. It consists of an 8 amino acid peptide (edotreotide, also known as DOTATOC) bound to the chelator 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid (DOTA) and labeled with the radioactive isotope gallium-68. The compound binds to somatostatin receptors, with higher affinity for somatostatin receptor type 2, where it emits beta particle radiation for detection by PET.
