Overview

68Ga-MMP14 is a radiopharmaceutical imaging agent developed for positron emission tomography (PET) to visualize the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-14 (MMP-14), also known as membrane-type 1 matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP). MMP-14 is a transmembrane proteinase that is significantly overexpressed in various aggressive cancers, where it plays a pivotal role in the degradation of the extracellular matrix, facilitating tumor cell invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. The agent typically consists of a high-affinity MMP-14-targeting moiety, such as the cyclic peptide AF359, conjugated via a chelator like DOTA to the positron-emitting radioisotope Gallium-68. By providing a non-invasive means to quantify MMP-14 levels, this tracer is intended to aid in the staging of solid tumors, the monitoring of disease progression, and the identification of patients likely to benefit from MMP-targeted therapies.
