Overview

Gallopamil is a small molecule L-type calcium channel blocker, structurally related to verapamil. It acts as an antiarrhythmic and antihypertensive agent, primarily used in the management of angina pectoris, certain arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), and has been investigated for use in asthma. Gallopamil works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions through L-type calcium channels in cardiac and smooth muscle cells, leading to decreased myocardial contractility, reduced heart rate, vasodilation, and lowered blood pressure. This mechanism helps reduce coronary vascular resistance and increases coronary blood flow[2][3][4][5]. Clinical studies have also explored its potential benefit in reducing airway remodeling in severe asthma[7].
