Galvokimig (UCB0022) is a humanized trivalent bispecific Nanobody developed by UCB for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is designed to simultaneously neutralize both interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and interleukin-17F (IL-17F), cytokines that are key drivers of neutrophilic inflammation and mucus hypersecretion in the airways of patients with COPD, particularly those with a chronic bronchitis phenotype. The molecule's trivalent structure consists of two identical Nanobody domains that bind to IL-17A and IL-17F, and a third domain that binds to human serum albumin (HSA) to extend its in vivo half-life. Galvokimig is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials, such as the SCALA study, to determine its efficacy in reducing acute exacerbations and improving lung function in patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.
