Gam-COVID-Vac Lyo

Gam-COVID-Vac Lyo is the freeze-dried (lyophilized) formulation of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. It is a heterologous prime-boost vaccine using two recombinant adenoviral vectors—recombinant human adenovirus type 26 (rAd26) for the first dose and recombinant human adenovirus type 5 (rAd5) for the second dose—each carrying the gene encoding the full-length SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The vaccine stimulates both humoral and cellular immune responses against SARS-CoV-2 by delivering genetic material that prompts host cells to produce spike protein, thereby inducing immunity. The lyophilized formulation was designed to improve storage stability compared to its frozen counterpart[4][8]. Clinical trials demonstrated robust immunogenicity with high seroconversion rates and neutralizing antibody production in all participants[4][8]. Common adverse events were mild or moderate, including injection site pain, fever, headache, asthenia, and muscle/joint pain[8].
