Overview

Gam-MERS-Vac (BVRS-GamVac) is a heterologous recombinant adenovirus-based vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology to protect against Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Similar in design to the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, it utilizes two different adenoviral vectors—Ad5 and Ad26—both carrying the gene for the MERS-CoV spike (S) protein. The vaccine is administered in a prime-boost regimen to induce both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. It has undergone Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in Russia, demonstrating safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
