Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gamascab is a topical anti-parasitic lotion containing 1% lindane (gamma benzene hexachloride), manufactured by NuLife Pharmaceuticals. It is primarily used for the treatment of scabies and lice infestations. Lindane functions as a neurotoxin by interacting with the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor-chloride channel complex. Specifically, it binds to the picrotoxin binding site of the GABAA receptor, acting as a non-competitive antagonist that inhibits chloride ion flux. This leads to hyperexcitability of the parasite's central nervous system, resulting in convulsions and death of both the mites and their eggs. The product has been used clinically for over 30 years.
