Overview
Gambrosol-Trio is a biocompatible peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution designed for the treatment of patients with end-stage renal failure. Developed by Gambro (now part of Baxter), it is characterized by a neutral pH and significantly lower concentrations of glucose degradation products (GDPs) compared to standard PD solutions. GDPs are known precursors to advanced glycosylation end-products (AGEs), which can damage the peritoneal membrane and accelerate the loss of residual renal function (RRF). Gambrosol-Trio utilizes a multi-chamber bag system to separate glucose from electrolytes during heat sterilization, which prevents the formation of GDPs. Clinical evidence, including the 'Trio Trial,' has demonstrated that Gambrosol-Trio significantly slows the decline of residual renal function in PD patients compared to conventional solutions like Dianeal.
