Overview

Gamijinhae-tang (GJHT) is a traditional Korean herbal medicine (Hanbang) formulation primarily utilized for the treatment of respiratory disorders characterized by inflammation and cough. As a modified version of the base Jinhae-tang formula, it typically consists of a complex mixture of medicinal herbs such as *Platycodon grandiflorum* and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis*. Pharmacological studies, including those using porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced models, demonstrate that GJHT exerts potent anti-inflammatory effects. Its mechanism of action involves the suppression of pro-inflammatory mediators, specifically reducing the levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), and inhibiting the recruitment of neutrophils into the airways. These properties suggest potential therapeutic utility in managing acute lung injury (ALI) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
