This investigational cell therapy consists of gamma-captured viral-specific T lymphocytes (VSTs) designed to treat refractory viral infections in immunocompromised transplant recipients. Developed under the leadership of Paul Szabolcs, the therapy targets Adenovirus, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections. The manufacturing process utilizes a rapid selection method known as gamma capture, which isolates T cells based on their production of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in response to specific viral antigens. These cells are then selected using immunomagnetic separation technology, such as the Miltenyi Biotec CliniMACS system. As an adoptive cell therapy, it aims to restore functional antiviral immunity in patients who have failed conventional antiviral treatments following hematopoietic stem cell or solid organ transplantation.
