Overview
This drug is a combination of midazolam, a short-acting benzodiazepine with anxiolytic, sedative, amnestic, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant properties, and gamma-cyclodextrin (γ-cyclodextrin), an excipient used to enhance the solubility and stability of poorly water-soluble drugs. In this formulation (notably as ADV6209), midazolam is complexed with gamma-cyclodextrin in an oral solution or syrup form. The primary indication is for moderate sedation or premedication in pediatric anesthesia. Gamma-cyclodextrin acts as a carrier molecule that increases the aqueous solubility of midazolam without significantly altering its pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics[1][3]. This combination allows for improved taste masking and patient acceptance in children[2][3].
