This is an investigational adoptive cellular immunotherapy consisting of ex vivo expanded donor-derived gamma delta (γδ) T cells, specifically the Vγ9Vδ2 subset. Developed by the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, the therapy is designed to prevent relapse in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHCT). The process involves isolating γδ T cells from the transplant donor and expanding them using artificial antigen presenting cells (AAPCs). These cells are then infused into the patient between days 60 and 100 post-transplant. The Vγ9Vδ2 T cells recognize and eliminate residual leukemia cells in an MHC-independent manner, providing a graft-versus-leukemia effect without the typical MHC restrictions of alpha-beta T cells.
