Overview

Gamma-delta T-PD-1 antibody refers to a novel cell therapy approach that combines the anti-tumor properties of gamma-delta (γδ) T cells with the immune checkpoint blockade activity of an anti–PD-1 monoclonal antibody. This strategy involves either arming or engineering γδ T cells with an anti–PD-1 antibody to enhance their cytotoxicity and cytokine production against tumor cells. The rationale is based on evidence that PD-1 expression on γδ T cells can limit their antitumor efficacy by reducing IFN-gamma secretion and cytotoxic function; blocking PD-1 signaling restores or enhances these functions[3][4][7]. Early clinical studies are exploring this modality for advanced solid tumors, aiming to leverage both direct tumor killing by γδ T cells and reversal of immunosuppression via PD-1 inhibition[3][7]. Developers include academic hospitals in China such as Changzhou No.2 People's Hospital and Third Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University[7].
