Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gamma-tocopherol-rich mixture of tocopherols is a dietary supplement containing a predominance of **gamma-tocopherol**, one of the four naturally occurring tocopherols (α, β, γ, δ), all of which are forms of vitamin E. The mixture typically includes substantial amounts of γ-tocopherol, with lower concentrations of α-, β-, and δ-tocopherols. Gamma-tocopherol has unique biological properties compared to alpha-tocopherol, such as the ability to scavenge reactive nitrogen species, inhibit 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase activities, suppress leukotriene, prostaglandin, and thromboxane synthesis, and exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Clinical and experimental evidence suggests potential benefits for inflammation-associated diseases, including kidney disease, asthma, and possibly cancer or atherosclerosis. Gamma-tocopherol-rich tocopherol mixtures may alter gut microbiota, improve gut barrier function, and modulate biomarkers relevant to oxidative stress and inflammation.
