Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ganagliflozin is an oral small molecule drug that acts as a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It is developed by Jilin Huisheng Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Hangzhou Zhongmei Huadong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and has also been studied for its effects on the progression of kidney disease in subjects with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. By inhibiting SGLT2, ganagliflozin reduces the reabsorption of filtered glucose in the kidneys, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion and a reduction in blood glucose levels.
