Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gandakang is a proprietary Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation, typically administered as Gandakang tablets, that is primarily used in China for the treatment of chronic liver diseases, including chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. The formulation is composed of several herbal extracts, including *Radix Astragali* (Huangqi), *Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae* (Danshen), and *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (Baishao), which are believed to exert hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects. Beyond its primary use in hepatology, Gandakang has been investigated as an adjunctive therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) to reduce disease activity and inflammatory cytokine levels. However, a significant clinical study regarding its efficacy in SLE was retracted in 2023 due to concerns over data integrity and the peer review process.
