Drug intelligence / Profile preview
*Ganoderma lucidum* ethanol extract is a bioactive preparation derived from the Reishi mushroom, a staple of traditional medicine known for its diverse therapeutic properties. This specific extract is characterized by its high concentration of lipophilic components, particularly triterpenoids (such as ganoderic acids) and phenolic compounds, which are more readily solubilized in ethanol compared to water. Research demonstrates that the ethanol extract exerts potent anticancer effects by inducing G0/G1 phase cell cycle arrest and promoting apoptosis in malignant cells, such as the MCF-7 breast cancer line. Its molecular mechanism involves the downregulation of key metabolic and epigenetic regulators, including ACAT1, ADCY3, and NME2, leading to metabolic disruption and impaired cellular proliferation. While often used as a dietary supplement for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, it is actively investigated for its potential as an adjunctive or primary therapeutic agent in oncology.
