Ganwei

Ganwei (also known as HepatoKeeper) is a botanical dietary supplement and herbal extract developed by Taipei City Hospital for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). It is a multi-ingredient formulation containing extracts from *Schisandra chinensis*, *Paeonia lactiflora*, and *Punica granatum*. The primary mechanism of action involves the induction of Glycine N-methyltransferase (GNMT) expression, a multifunctional protein that plays a regulatory role in liver carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and is typically downregulated in NAFLD tissues. In clinical trials, Ganwei has been evaluated both as a monotherapy and in combination with metformin, demonstrating significant improvements in liver steatosis and fibrosis as measured by FibroScan CAP and kPa scores.
