Overview

Garden Balsam + Platycladus orientalis decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation being investigated for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. The decoction consists of extracts from Garden Balsam (Impatiens balsamina) and Platycladus orientalis (Oriental Arborvitae). In TCM, Platycladus orientalis (Ce Bai Ye) is a well-known herb used to cool the blood and promote hair growth, often cited for its ability to stimulate hair follicles. Garden Balsam (Feng Xian Hua) is traditionally utilized for its anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. The Jiaxing Hospital of Chinese Medicine has conducted a phase 0 clinical study comparing the efficacy of this decoction, administered both topically and orally, against standard 5% minoxidil tincture in adults with androgenic alopecia.
