Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Garlic juice is a natural botanical extract obtained from the bulbs of *Allium sativum* (garlic). It is rich in organosulfur compounds, particularly allicin (diallyl thiosulfinate), which is generated when the garlic cloves are crushed or damaged, activating the enzyme alliinase. Garlic juice has been studied for its potential therapeutic benefits in cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and erectile dysfunction. Its primary mechanisms of action include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities, as well as the modulation of gut microbiota to reduce the production of trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO), a pro-atherogenic metabolite.
